Maharishi School Senior Advances to National Merit Scholar Semifinals

Iowa private school senior Daniel Zhu, National Merit Scholar semifinalist. According to the Ottumwa Courier, "about 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, were notified that they have qualified as semifinalists. These kids are among the highest scorers in each state."
What comes next? Zhu will compete with the other semi-finalists for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. The National Merit Scholarship website reports that "90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title."
