A Brief History of Maharishi School
In the Beginning...
To demonstrate some of the unique parts of Maharishi School, you have to know our history. We have a long history of innovation. We were here before meditation was something commonly practiced. We were doing yoga before it was cool.
Maharishi School was established in 1975 and proudly bears the name of its founder, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the internationally renowned teacher, author, and scholar. The School began on the campus of Maharishi International University as an elementary school for the children of faculty and staff. It quickly grew in enrollment. In 1981 the secondary school was established, completing the world’s first seamless system of Consciousness-Based education: Preschool through Ph.D.
Accreditation and Awards
Maharishi School was accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States in 1986 and in 1987 and also received Special Accreditation by the state of Iowa as a college preparatory school for grades 7-12. We ranked #2 for Academic Quality of all Private Schools in Iowa in 2016 and 2017.
Who We are Now...
Now Maharishi School is a private, college preparatory day and boarding school located in beautiful Fairfield, Iowa. We serve students from age 18 months through high school graduation.
Our unique and holistic curriculum adds components that are missing in modern education such as meditation, yoga, organic food, project-based learning, and a combination of single and mixed gender classes. This makes for a well-rounded experience that develops each child to their full mental and physical potential.
