Water the Root to Enjoy the Fruit - Maharishi School's Core Principles

What the Tree Means to Us

The tree has always been associated with Maharishi School, formerly Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, but it has a sentimental and poignant meaning to faculty, students, parents, teachers, alumni, and the wider community. The tree represents many parts of our core beliefs. Most specifically it illustrates one of our 16 Core Principles of Creative Intelligence: Water the root to enjoy the fruit.

The Root

The Maharishi School tree shows the roots, the basis of the tree. If they’re not healthy, the tree won’t flourish. At Maharishi School, we develop the student at the deepest level: their roots. Students and faculty practice meditation and yoga twice a day. The Transcendental Meditation technique reduces stress, improves brain function, develops full human potential, and nourishes their everyday life.

The Fruit

The fruit at Maharishi School is our students’ success. When the root is watered, the fruit is plentiful. Many students win top prizes in science fairs, the fine arts, sports, and international creativity competitions. Many students go on the attend top universities and colleges. Our alumni lead beautiful careers as CEOs, journalists, scientists, entrepreneurs, doctors, and much more.

We see our students all the way from tiny seeds planted in fertile soil to ripe and splendid fruits. We nurture the individual passions of each student to help them blossom into the marvelous, well-rounded humans they were meant to become.

When Oprah visited our school in October of 2011, she said something very insightful that gave amazing perspective into what we accomplish here at Maharishi School. She said, ““Who knew that there was a school in Iowa based on consciousness? I’ve done a lot of TV shows and often feel like it’s stepping backwards. With you guys, it’s a giant leap forward. My whole life I’ve been trying to raise awareness and help people live better lives. You guys are doing this. This is a dream come true to see a school based on consciousness. It’s a very special day to actually see it.”
